Single & Ready To Mingle
Dear beer lover,
We have to be honest: as a general rule, single-hop beers are nonsense. Practicality aside (it means using a lot of one variety), depth and complexity is best acheived by balancing all the different properties of a few individual hops.
But some hops do just fine on their own, and others really sing. What’s more, there is no better way to truly appreciate and get to know what a hop adds to a beer than by being confronted with it full on. This week’s box is full of single hop beers that are even more different to each other than usual because the character of each hop is emphasised by its isolation. In addition, the varying styles and brewing techniques mean the flowers have been used in all sorts of ways that say something about the hop, the style and indeed the brewery.
We may have over thought this one, but we’ll let you be the judge.
